Flower Baskets
The first few days of March are spent preparing our greenhouse for the spring flower basket crop. Dirt is mixed and placed in baskets, the irrigation is laid, repairs made, and we excitedly await the arrival of our flower plugs. This event is a treasured time for me. Alongside my granny and sisters, planting the flowers quenches the yearning for spring and some manual labor after a long cold winter.
We currently grow around 550 hanging flower baskets and pots that are nurtured over the course of a couple months. Towards the end of April, the greenhouse is bursting with color and fragrance. Friends, family and neighbors come out to find that special something that brings life and some spring sunshine to their front porch.
