Thankful for Home

“That house was perfect whether you liked food or sleep, or story-telling or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all. Merely to be there was a cure for weariness.” – J.R.R Tolkien

What encompasses a home? Is it the warmth found in a roaring fire by the family hearth? Is it your granny’s recipe of blackberry cobbler on a piece of china, the smell of roast cooking or a full table surrounded by family and friends? Maybe it’s a front porch and a warm cup of coffee or perhaps it’s a rocking chair where songs are sang and babies nurtured?

As I carried my newborn and my husband led our two- year old through the woods of our new farm to our future homeplace, I pondered the meaning of a home. Tolkien said it best, home is a cure for weariness. Home nourishes the soul. It is a place of rest and refuge. It is where life is lived, messes are made and the truth of the gospel is told.

It is our prayer that you and your family experience the goodness of home this holiday season. – Jordan
